🤝Upcoming Board Meeting - 11.00 Thursday 26th @Hlemmur Haus, Jupiter

The Hafnar.communty Member’s Association will be having its next board meeting on Thursday 11am, in Jupiter at Hlemmur Haus. I’ve been reliably informed that this room is also known as “That cozy room on the fifth floor”.

If you have an idea, suggestion, (constructive) complaint that’s within the scope of the member’s association and would like to discuss it in person - come by! It would be great if you can email hello@hafnar.community beforehand with some kind of agenda item, so we can brace ourselves emotionally accordingly beforehandedly.

🎁Jólaportið report-ið

Last December we took part in the Christmas market at Kolaportið as well as having a special takeover weekend with live performances from haus members, including a very successful dance / fashion show!

It was a big community effort, and thanks to all the artists and organisers who took part and made it happen!

Check out the Anonymous Moments for some pics of the event!

💸Special Price For You My Friend (Haus Discount Program)

The Haus has negotiated several deals at local stores and food-sellers!

We kindly ask you to take off your headphones and pay attention as the nearest discount may be behind you.

*Ofar (The Verslun Formerly Known As Origo)*
Members get special prices in Ofar's webstore which sells computers, cameras and video equipment, IT stuff and other electronics.
To take advantage of this discount, put "hafnar.haus" in the company ("fyrirtæki") field when you sign up as a user - keep in mind it might take up to 24 hours after signing up for the discount to kick in.

We’re also negotiating discounts at local coffee, food and wine places (for now mainly near Hafnar.haus)... of course we hope that everyone will first think of supporting our in-house coffee and lunch providers, but out of hours or on the days when they’re not available, we have :

*Kaffi O-lé*
It went away, then came back again - and Haus members once more get a 10% discount on coffee.

*Napoli*
Hafnar.haus’ neighbourly provider of Delicious Italian Things Put On Bread And Heated In Oven are offering haus members 10% off all food - except for lunchtimes, because that’s already heavily discounted, and rucola isn’t cheap.

*Tivoli*
The very fancy, red-curtained joint on the corner opposite the hot dog stand. 10% off everything at all times. What a concept.

🍲Booking rooms with Cauldron support

Want to book the Meditation Room for a session that all Hausmates can join? Having an open workshop in the White Box space? You can use the Cauldron fund to refund the booking fees for these, providing your event meets the criteria. (See below for what the Cauldron fund can support!)

💸Supporting your projects with money money money

The association has a reserve of money to support events, ideas, improvements, initiatives – and we can do this either via the Cauldron system (see below) or by other means, depending on the project. Things we’ve supported so far include:

  • Print / Zine Shop

  • Film Club

  • S27 Tónleikar

  • And many more!

🤝What is the association?

Hafnar.community is a non-profit members’ association for Hafnar.haus. Collectively, we support a vibrant community life in and around Hafnar.haus. We are figuring out at the moment how to collaborate with the new Hlemmur.haus people; welcome!

What does that mean in practice?

Well, as a member you e.g. get access to financial support for your events in the haus through the Cauldron (up to 15.000 ISK per event*).

We hold markets / events where members can sell their wares (e.g. Christmas market), and have a posi system for this, and you can rent the posi for your own events for a small fee.
You can apply for public grants using the association – which can look big and impressive to the people reading the grant applications.

The association is running the Print Shop at Hafnar.haus, which you can use in various ways.

… and if there’s something missing that you’d like to see happen, we can help!

* events need to meet a few simple criteria to get funded: be run by a registered member of hafnar.community (see how to join further below), be open to everyone in our community (although outside guests are very welcome, too). Advertise the event at least 2 days before in the app, take a picture of the event and share it on the app after. So: film nights, food nights, boardgame or videogame nights, debates, guest lectures, workshops, screenings, pop-up markets are all welcome.

💪How do I join the association?

Go to Hafnarhaus.app, log in, hit the Join button.  Between the Lunch Club and Gym signups, you’ll find Hafnar.Community. Hit Join again, et voilà!

🛠️I’m interested in organising / changing / suggesting something!

Great! If it’s an event for everybody (see above for criteria), the Hafnar.community Cauldron can support you with up to 15.000 ISK

If it’s something else, you can join a board meeting – the next one is scheduled for December. Go ahead and email hello@hafnar.community with an agenda item, and let’s make it happen.

If you want to get active, curate event series, help spread the word on social media, create a pop up – brilliant! Let us know if we can help!

👋That’s it, see you around!
