🎁Jólaportið
Between now and Christmas, the Haus and Kolaportið are in cooperation to provide a platform for live performances and selling your work!
If you have things to sell, there’ll be an opportunity every weekend between now and Christmas. If you can be there in person to staff the table space that we’ll have, even better! Please email Maddý (maddy@hlemmur.haus) with which dates you’d like to have and what you’d like to sell.
If you have a performance: between the 5th - 7th December we’ll be taking over the stage, so please email Jonathan Swerdlow (swerdloj@gmail.com) if you have a performance (and preferred date) you’d like to propose! It could be music, poetry, live painting.. More the merrier.
Posters designed by in-Haus design wizard Agnar will be going up about this soon, keep an eye out for those for more information!
🚪.Haus advent calendar
As the year is slowly drawing to a close, it is about time to open those little advent calendar doors – and we invite you to join a different kind of open studio at the .Haus! Throughout December the .Haus Advent calendar opens a different door each day and invites members of the Hauses to see what lies behind it! Wanna be part of it with your studio/office/creative workspace?
Sign up and open your studio door - invite people for some eggnog, a little listening party, a studio tour or something else – up to you!**
Sign up for the day that you want to open your door to other Hausians: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bZRt6nIQzCu4BMK2NmYwouUd97vu-0oGWImwU5713S4/edit?usp=sharing
Fill out this quick form so we can announce your studio on the day: https://forms.gle/t6oeQwtqtz2HkQd46
**The event will be supported by the end-of-year-edition of the Cauldron. If you’d like to offer snacks or drinks or something else on the day of your open door, you can get the costs refunded (up to 8.000 ISK).
🎄Jóla.Haus – Deck the Hallways Party
Join us on December 4th from 5–8pm for a merry Christmas pop-up at Hafnarhaus!
We will provide snacks and drinks on every floor, so you can wander, explore, and meet the wonderful people who bring the house to life. Everyone who attends will also have the chance to win some fantastic prizes, many of them created by the people in the house or coming directly from the projects and artists who work here. Please spread the word, we are looking forward to celebrating with all of you!
🪩Room allocation
Change is the only constant in life, and in the Haus spaces that means that rooms become available from time to time. The Haus hosts have tried to make this re-allocation system as fair as possible. This is known to most as the bingo system, and the full details of this are available in Allocation Policy, link here.
We brought this up at the last board meeting, as it felt like it was worth clarifying how the system works. When a room becomes available, current members get priority, and any group that proposes a communal space (e.g. a hackerspace, photo studio, etc.) that can be used by other members also gets priority.
We’re going to follow this up with a town hall meeting soon to make sure everyone is clear on how this system currently works, and invite anonymous proposals for how the system could be changed and improved, that the association can take up with the hosts.
🍲Booking rooms with Cauldron support
Want to book the Meditation Room for a session that all Hausmates can join? Having an open workshop in the White Box space? You can use the Cauldron fund to refund the booking fees for these, providing your event meets the criteria. (See below for what the Cauldron fund can support!)
💸Supporting your projects with money money money
The association has a reserve of money to support events, ideas, improvements, initiatives – and we can do this either via the Cauldron system (see below) or by other means, depending on the project. Things we’ve supported so far include:
Print / Zine Shop
Film Club
S27 Tónleikar
And many more!
On that note, a ✨gentle reminder ✨to members: please check your netbanki for any unpaid fees for the association!
If at any point you would like to leave the members’ association, you can do so in the hafnar.app by finding the Group, and clicking ‘Leave Group.’ Any questions? Just email hello@hafnar.community.
🤝What is the association?
Hafnar.community is a non-profit members’ association for Hafnar.haus. Collectively, we support a vibrant community life in and around Hafnar.haus. We are figuring out at the moment how to collaborate with the new Hlemmur.haus people; welcome!
What does that mean in practice?
Well, as a member you e.g. get access to financial support for your events in the haus through the Cauldron (up to 15.000 ISK per event*).
We hold markets / events where members can sell their wares (e.g. Christmas market), and have a posi system for this, and you can rent the posi for your own events for a small fee.
You can apply for public grants using the association – which can look big and impressive to the people reading the grant applications.
The association is running the Print Shop at Hafnar.haus, which you can use in various ways.
… and if there’s something missing that you’d like to see happen, we can help!
* events need to meet a few simple criteria to get funded: be run by a registered member of hafnar.community (see how to join further below), be open to everyone in our community (although outside guests are very welcome, too). Advertise the event at least 2 days before in the app, take a picture of the event and share it on the app after. So: film nights, food nights, boardgame or videogame nights, debates, guest lectures, workshops, screenings, pop-up markets are all welcome.
💪How do I join the association?
Go to Hafnarhaus.app, log in, hit the Join button. Between the Lunch Club and Gym signups, you’ll find Hafnar.Community. Hit Join again, et voilà!
🛠️I’m interested in organising / changing / suggesting something!
Great! If it’s an event for everybody (see above for criteria), the Hafnar.community Cauldron can support you with up to 15.000 ISK.
If it’s something else, you can join a board meeting – the next one is scheduled for December. Go ahead and email hello@hafnar.community with an agenda item, and let’s make it happen.
If you want to get active, curate event series, help spread the word on social media, create a pop up – brilliant! Let us know if we can help!
👋That’s it, see you around!
