Contributions are collected analog or digital and take the form of text, image, or anything that may be transmitted via QR code. Each issue is completely different, carefully curated and sustainably produced so that design elements, layout, materials, and distribution via social interventions are linked to the zine’s theme. e. Accompanying artifacts also offer micro representations of each theme. The diverse zines are a meaningful and joyful contribution acting as ecological and social tools to draw together collaboration via creativity, design, community building while building the bridge between the creative community, the city of Reykjavik and its public.
The first issue’s theme was ”issues” and the questions we asked remain relevant – How do you conceptualize, co-create content, layout, print, and publish a zine with very limited resources. How do you gather and compress the creative potential of over 300 individuals of Iceland‘s biggest creative community onto a double-sided page. How do you enable active participation, empowerment, and ownership in a community-owned zine, countless issues to be dealt with. We would like to present and share to you all these issues, its issues and how it became a vid placemaking tool of Iceland’s creative community.
Recently we launched in the hafnar.haus the OPEN STUDIO, a space for bookbinding, publication design, fanzine production, and DIY publishing, an OPEN LIBRARY and OPEN GALLERY, to encourage the community to get started, manifest, materialize their ideas to help to get their creative visions out for the society.
